The Helpful Fox Senko-san 04
Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san 04
世話やきキツネの仙狐さん episode 04
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis
Nakano comes home more exhausted than ever. Senko-san is bummed to hear that Nakano has to work on his lone day off. She gets him to agree to allow her to wake him instead of his phone’s alarm clock. However, the following morning, Nakano doesn’t want to get up. Further, Senko-san discovers that a sleepy Nakano is susceptible to her suggestions and allows himself to be pampered by her. As such, she craws back into bed with him and allows him to sleep all day, thus causing him to miss work.
The next (rainy) day, Nakano goes to work, leaving Senko-san to handle things. She turns on the A/C (for the dehumidifying aspect) but can’t get it to work right. Senko-san tries the vacuum, but finds she doesn’t like the noisy thing. As such, she cleans her own way. She has similar problems with the washing machine and stove, which causes her to do things the way she’s used to. As she plays with electronics, she ends up blowing a fuse, which freaks her out. Nakano comes home and makes things right, explaining that all he needs is her smiling face.
Thoughts/Review
Manga source chapters 6 and 7 were used for The Helpful Fox Senko-san 04. While there was some padding and minor tweaks to the source material, it was a pretty fun romp.
Pampering Fun
I found it amusing how Nakano became susceptible to Senko-san’s pampering efforts, just because he was exhausted. Senko-san taking delight in seeing what she could get away with helped add to the fun of the moment. Of course, she wouldn’t allow him to go for an extra round of tail fluffing though. 😂
Electronic Fun
Seeing Senko-san dealing with modern day appliances and other electronics was also amusing. The A/C element was kinda confusing, but after consulting the source manga, I realized that even though this is an A/C unit, it can be used for other things. I know some ductless A/C units I’ve looked into for my own home can have heaters as well.
As to Senko-san’s dealings with the other electronic equipment, it was amusing seeing how she ended up going super old school rather than figure out how to use the modern appliances.
FUNimation’s Kuroto Obsession
Man, this is really starting to anger me to no end. Whomever is responsible for the English adaptation keeps ramming the name Kuroto into the subtitles when the name has NOT been assigned to Nakano. The name has NEVER appeared in the manga and the ONLY time it was actually used in the anime is some apparent flashback sequence with a boy. The manga doesn’t have those sequences, but it does have a flashback that apparently goes back generations. And yet text that doesn’t say “Kuroto” in it gets translated as “Kuroto” ’cause “reasons.” 😠
That aside, I REALLY hope that “Kuroto” turns out to be Nakano’s dad or something. I doubt I’ll get my wish, but it would make me giggle if I do. It would prove yet again that “accurate but readable” subtitles are better than whatever localization crap that can be rewritten ’cause “reasons.” But as it stands, the adapter will likely get off Scott free and will continue to rewrite things as they see fit ’cause “localization is to hip to be square!”
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
This is a pretty terrible review, but since I happened to have a day where I had access to good Internet, and my crappy laptop wasn’t fighting me like crazy, I figured I’d get something up now.
In the end, outside of the FUNimation stupidity, I enjoyed The Helpful Fox Senko-san 04 pretty well. It was a lot of fun and stayed fairly close to the source manga.
